The Elechi Scholarships Applications: All You Need to Know
Dear Student,
I know you are excited about this scholarship, just as I am
Before we hop right in, let me tell you a bit more about Elechi Scholarships and what we intend to achieve.
Scholarships for education in Nigeria are marked by the following:
- Very limited scholarship opportunities
- Unsustainable one-time disbursement of funds to students per annum
- Limited of total lack of follow-up on the use of the funding for educational purposes
- Very limited funding for research purposes in the core sciences and arts to advance knowledge
Now, you have heard about all the problems, right?
How does Elechi Scholarships try to solve these problems?
First, we try to test and validate a funding model that is not very popular but works in many other places:
- Introduce a periodic, sustainable and dependable scholarship scheme for students
- Refrain from bulk payments of Scholarship awards to students
- Deduct tuition fees and accommodation fees for the awardee directly to the university
- Split the rest of the scholarships and pay it as monthly stipends to the awardee
- Collect performance review from the students and referees at intervals
- Maintain a one year scholarship status for the awardee renewable based on performance and availability of funding.
- Source and provide research based funding for postgraduate studies in Nigeria
We believe this strategy will allow us overcome all the challenges we initially identified.
This maiden edition serves as a proof of concept that this model is good for the Nigerian students
Now that you have heard it all, lets dive deep into the requirements for this application cycle (2026 cycle):
- Only students at the University of Nigeria Nsukka would be eligible for this cycle (remember this is a proof of concept).
- Only Students in their 300 level of study are eligible for this round.
- You are required to get your "Transcript of Records" for the previous academic year, signed and stamped by your department. For clarity, we accept transcripts with up to 70% of your results available (For example: at least 11 results are already out if you offered 15 courses for the previous year)
- You are required to provide a "Motivation Letter" of maximum of 500 words as a pdf of docx file. Here you explain the reasons why you are qualified for the scholarship.
- You are to get a "Recommendation Letter" from one of the lecturers in your department. (Note that this person will remain our contact person for your performance review, so choose someone you are always in touch with).
- Finally you are to fil the application form with all the documents above duly uploaded.
And that's it, you have just applied to the Elechi Scholarships
